NORTHERN SOUL - THE TEMPESTS - 'SOMEDAY'

 TEMPESTS hailed from, or around, Charlotte, North Carolina. The groupwas first set up by two brothers Mike and Roger Bunch. In 1968, "Would
You Believe!" album was released on the Smash label, a subsidiary of
Mercury records.
At the time of this release, the Tempests consistedof ten members. The leader singer and co-songwriter of 'Someday' wasHazel Martin Jr. (1936-2008). He had a powerful and distinctive voice,
described by some with "an unforgettable, honey-soaked voice".
'Someday',and other tracks featured on the album, became highly sought after in
the early 1980's on the Northern-Rare Soul scene.

The track was featuredregularly on DJ Guy Hennigan's top twenty at Top of the World,
Stafford. Initial plays of the record in 1983 required the traditional
practice of 'covering-up'. Consequently, the artist was introduced for a
brief time as 'Bobby Paris!'The Tempests also figured prominently in the Carolina Beach scene.
