RE-POST, 'AN OLD DREAM SEQUENCE, RE-VISITED'

Last night, I, had, a very strange Dream.

The details are rather vague, as ,all Dreams, tend to be,- but, I, remember the words, 'Crawley Court'.[a place, I, never, heard of] The Dream, had, Me, searching, for, an, Apartment, that, I, had, once owned. I ,found, the location[in the Dream]but, no Building, could, ever, have been, on the undeveloped ,and, overgrown, piece of land, almost, hill-like, with, a very, steep incline, somewhat like ,a Railway embankment.
I ,woke up, very puzzled.
Today, I ,searched, 'google', and, found, this information.

Hampshire Sundials Peter Ransom January 2002 Hampshire Sundials. The subject of the Society's first talk for 2002 was 'Hampshire Sundials' and was given by Peter Ransom who is not only an expert on the subject but he is also a great enthusiast and came appropriately dressed with a waistcoat embossed with clocks and sundials. Peter's interest in sundials started when he lived in the North-East and discovered that his local village had many sundials, from this his interest grew and he now has photographed sundials throughout the world. The British Sundial Society which was formed in 1989 now has records of over 6,000 sundials in the U.K Peter reminded us that the earth's path round the sun is not truly circular or regular and consequently Greenwich Mean Time is 'averaged', as a result sundials do not always agree with clock time. In olden days people relied on sundials (which can be a very accurate means of telling the time) when their longcase clocks ran down or broke, they then had to resort to a sundial to get an accurate baseline for re-setting the clock. Peter the took us through the history of sundials starting with the earliest scratch dials dating from Saxon times. There are 4 known Saxon dials in Hampshire, at Corhampton, Hannington, Warnford and Winchester. These dials can be either vertical or horizontal and consist of scratches made in a stone with a hole for the gnomon ( the stick in the center of the dial which casts a shadow on the stone). The Saxons measured their time in tids and like today there were 24 tids in a day. The Saxon scratch dials however use the octaval system which divides the day into eight and is presumably of religious significance. These dials are thought to be of 7th or 8th century origin. Post Saxon dials are more common and are frequently placed on quoins, window piers and above porches or priests doors. Kings Somborne church has 3 scratch dials (why so many?), one of them is upside down and probably was accidentally moved when the Victorians restored the church. Romsey Abbey also has 3 scratch dials, one is on a North face and since it is upside down it is thought that it has been moved from another part of the abbey or recycled from an old chapel. Scratch dials were replaced by what most of us would now recognize as a traditional sundial. These later dials were much more scientific and the segments of the day were of different sizes with Roman numerals often being used. Horizontal dials are frequently found in churchyards and during the 1920's it was very fashionable to have a commemorative dial erected in memory of someone . With a horizontal dial a line extending up the gnomon is in line with the Pole star and the angle between the baseplate and the gnomon gives the latitude of the dial. Many dials are incorrectly made but with a properly constructed dial the line between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. should pass through the base of the gnomon. Vertical dials can be very sophisticated and the one at Bramdean is in the shape of a cross so that the sun passes over many faces of the cross and gives an accurate reading of the time in different planes. The exact methodology of this dial is written up in Peter's very interesting book 'A Dozen Dials' published in 1998. The lecture was profusely illustrated by many slides of sundials in Hampshire and Peter concluded his interesting address by showing us some modern dials including the globe dial at Portsmouth and the new dial on Gosport esplanade as well as an analemmatic dial which he has constructed. In this dial the gnomon is vertical and often the observer acts as the gnomon. Also , I found This; Arqiva - Crawley Court Originally the IBA, later NTL and now Arqiva. Part2, Day2.

Another, night, another, Dream.

This ,one, is, I'm, beginning, to realise, a continuation, of ,the one, I, had, and, described, in, My, last Posting.

Briefly, as follows.

I, am driving 'downhill', on an icy[slippery , but drivable with care]road. I ,reach a Mediaeval town.
A sign says 'Otingen', and, I, realise I am, in a 'Germanic',Country.

I ,leave, the car,and proceed , 'downhill', through a tightly packed street system, until, I find myself, in a kind of 'market place', with a lot of stalls, selling various items.
The one that catches my attention, is selling various, 'Russian hats', similar to the Military type, worn by Russian soldiers, but a more modern design, and some with 'Camouflage', patterning..
The stall is being attended by a giant figure, at least nine foot tall, dressed in Military garb, but with no visible weaponry.
I ,am unimpressed by the figure, and do not stop.
The next stall, is selling a giant , perfectly square, TV set, completely black.
I, look carefully at this , then leave. The 'market' has other people walking about, but none notice me, and, I, pay no attention to them. I ,awaken, knowing, I, must write this down.

First impressions.
1, Germanic country? brings to mind 'Gottingen', and it's , 'University of enlightenment', in Germany.
2, strong Russian symbolism, 'giant [male] figure? maybe 'Bear?'
3, slippery downhill road?
4, black 'square?' Tv set[technos]

So, to start with, 'Otingen'. I ,searched, Google, but found nothing satisfactory. Then, I ,thought maybe it's ot-in-gen? or perhapsm Old Testament-in Genesis?
I ,rather like the idea ,of ,Gottingen! and, it's. 'University of enlightenment!,' so, feel happy ,to follow this idea.

Mediaeval? town? reminds me of Jung's 'Liverpool Dream', only Jung went upwards! I ,was definitely, going 'Downwards'. Am I entering a depressive state? ...maybe..

Back to the first dream posting. Previously to this, I posted a piece, about, 'Ed Harris', the actor, who starred in , 'Apollo' movies.
'Crawley', is from the old English, 'Craw-leah', meaning , wood, or clearing, of Crows! so, I, was being ,'summoned;, to, the 'Court of Crows?'. Crows, and Blackbirds generally, I know, a lot, about, re; Religio/Mythology research. Apollo, has multifarious Symbolism.
But, as, I am, Self-Analysing, I am interested, in, Jungian connections.
No surprise, then, That I find, 'Apollo', straight, out, of ,Jungian terminology.

Early in the 20th century, Carl Gustav Jung sought to find a word that could describe the innate patterns of behaviour that govern our lives. Thus he introduced the term ‘Archetypes’ into modern psychology. Jung described archetypes as distinct themes manifesting in the fantasies and behaviour of his patients, and found these same themes visibly rendered in the arts, religions, myths,architecture, and social customs of all peoples. Because he did not want the term ‘archetypes’ to become yet another intellectual abstraction, Jung advanced various mythic images to illustrate them. For instance, the Goddess Demeter is a presentation of the archetypal mother; Zeus an archetypal father; Apollo the archetypal intellectual, and so on. Jung went on to personify many archetypes by using general expressions such as 'The Great Mother’, 'Old Wise Man’, 'Shadow archetype’, etc. which have now become standard expressions in the field of Analytical Psychology. Jung writes “The fact that the unconscious spontaneously personifies is the reason why I have taken over these personifications in my terminology and formulated them in names”.^[4]

  Germanic and Russian themes are my interest at this moment. Nietzsche has pre-occupied me for some time now, maybe a little Russian study, will prove therapeutic? The Blacksquare, is very reminiscent of the chessboard! and , as everyone knows, the russians are pretty good at Chess!

Day3 Dream3
First, a little background info.
[this is not dream material]
I am a Taxi-Driver, of over 25 years, experience. I work nights.I got into the house at 4am.I was still thinking about this dream sequence.My last fare of the night, had been an interesting experience.A group of people had gone along way out of their intended route, to drop off a female, who was somewhat inebriated. They had tried to get her into her house, for a long time, finally abandoning the attempt, and getting her back into the cab, had driven a long way to another persons house. She would stay the night there. It had been a long time, trying toget her into her own house, but they had given up the attempt, finally deciding, that another key had been left in the lock, at the other side of the door, hence their inability to open the door.
I was very amused by the whole thing, it turned out to be a very good fare for me, and I had arrived home in a happy frame of mind.
Before going to bed, I was in the kitchen, making a drink, when a huge flash of lightening, lit up the room, followed by a mighty clap of thunder! , I smiled,and went to bed myself.
I slept lightly, and uneventfully, the dream came late, it had a much lower'intensity', and I will try to recall the details as follows.
Material[dream3]

I am with my wife,at the top of a hill, in Liverpool. Across a busy road is a shop. We wait to cross, and a caribbean lady, with a baby , in a stroller, wait next to us to cross the road.
She crosses alone, leaving the baby on our side of the road, and goes into the shop.We get down to stroller level, to look at the baby.
Next, I am in a pool hall. A man is playing pool alone. He is very good, but I know I can help him improve his game. So, I watch for a while, then leave.
Now, I am back with my wife, we are going down the hill, in front of us, the caribbean lady is now with my wifes sister, Monica. It is very hot and sunny. A local 'wag' on a bicycle passes us. He says, 'Hot isn't it? I got my mums sunburn, and she wants it back!' ha ha, and disappears.
Monica, the caribbean lady, and the stroller have disappeared. Claire, my wife, says, 'they must be playing the fruit machines[casino machines]', and I wake up.

Primary observations.
1, the dream sequence temperature has changed, from cold to hot.
2, a baby has arrived on the scene, but the stroller , indicates 'dependence'.
3, the man playing pool, is suffering the greatest evil,-loneliness, no one to play with!
4,'Monica', and my wife, are now actively helping, [female intuition?]
5, the 'wag', on the bicycle, I identify as the 'Bicycle joker', seen on playing cards[trickster figure]
6, Fruit machines and Bicycle jokers? [playing cards] indicate 'gambling'.

Dream 2, of yesterday, I discussed with a passenger in my cab, her advice, was to, wait and see. I have difficulty doing this, as my mind is so active.

In philosophy and science black box theories have been proposed for various fields by various philosophers and scientists. Such a prominent theory is the so called "black box theory of consciousness", which states that the mind is fully understood once the inputs and outputs are well defined, and generally couples this with a radical skepticism regarding the possibility of ever successfully describing the underlying structure, mechanism, and dynamics of the mind.

If we had a black box that we could not open, could not just "look inside" to see how it worked, all we could do is guess how it worked based on what happens when we do something to it (an input) and what occurs as a result of that (an output). If we put an orange in on one side, and an orange falls out the other. We can make educated guesses on what is happening inside the black box. It could be filled with oranges, it could have a conveyor belt to move the orange from one side to the other, it could even go through an alternate universe for all we know. All we can do is guess.
Every now and again something strange will occur that changes our understanding of the black box. Like if we put an orange in and a guava popped out. Suddenly our "filled with oranges" and "conveyor belt" theories no longer work and we have to change our "educated guess" as to how the black box works.
The black box theory is a fairly popular method to describe what psychology is like. We cannot open the mind and simply "peek" inside, we can only do something to the mind (show it something scary) and from the results guess what goes on inside.

Now, I have a different understanding, of the dream sequence.

'Otingen', I was unsatisfied with. I felt a Polish connection, somehow, Nietzsche, after all, was Polish.
No surprise then, that I picked up three people from Poland last night?, one was a girl, soon to be married to an English guy. I asked her about 'Otingen', she said she knew of a place in Poland.
So, I tried an extra 'T', and looked for 'Ottingen'.
Its amazing what a 'T' can do!
